2016 Mat-Su Ski Club Social & Annual Meeting
We will hold our social and annual meeting on Saturday, October 15 at the chalet at the Government Peak Recreation Area at 6:30pm. Lauren Fritz will be the guest speaker. We will have drinks, pizza, salad and door prizes. Continuing this year is a silent auction with proceeds to go towards scholarships for local high school skiers. You can also renew your membership at the social. Come on out for a great evening with your fellow skiers.
Ski Race Volunteers
The Mat-Su Ski Club will be hosting 1 community and 2 high school weekend ski races this winter.
The Icicle Double is a community ski race consisting of multiple distances and ages on December 31st and January 1st. The Government Peak Inviteis a Region III high school meet on December 2 & 3. The Region III High School Championships will be on February 17 & 18.
Please support our racing community by helping out. It will take a lot of volunteers to put these races on. A volunteer sign up sheet will be available at the October 15 Mat-Su Ski Club Social and Annual Meeting.
JN Registration is open
We will once again have 3 sessions:a homeschool session on Mondays & Wednesdays from 1-2:15pm and 2 evening sessions; either Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday 5-6:15pm. To register, please go here.

We will hand out skis on Saturday, October 15 from 5-5:45pm at the Government Peak Recreation Area Chalet. We have a limited number of skis & poles available, so it is first come, first serve. Rentals are $50 for a set of skis & poles. YOU MUST BRING A CHECK made out to the Mat-Su Ski Club, postdated 4/22/17, for the deposit on the skis, $150/set. Skiers are responsible for obtaining their own boots.
Volunteers are needed between 3:30-6:30pm to help with ski rentals. Please contact Rebecca at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
Phase 2 Trail Expansion
The Mat-Su Ski Club's next project is the Phase 2 Trail Expansion. This will add an additional 8.4km of trails on more challenging terrain. These new trails will be located north of the stadium and north of the Pioneer Loop. This expansion will allow us to have a 2.5km loop, 3.3km loop, 5km loop(s), 6.6km loop, 7.5km loop and a 10km loop (incorporating the Matanuska Loop). We have received a pledge from an anonymous donor of $50,000 to go towards the Phase 2 Trail Expansion as long as the Mat-Su Ski Club can raise $50,000 to match this pledge. Mat-Su Ski Club Board Updates
At the Annual Meeting, there will be a vote to change the bylaws, restricting the number of board seats to thirteen. The change is as follows: Section 2 Authorized Number. The authorized number of directors of this corporation shall be an odd number with a minimum of seven (7) and a maximum of thirteen (13).
Our current board members are Hans Hill (President), Dave Musgrave (Vice-President & Junior Nordic Coordinator), Maritt Youngblood (Treasurer), Mike Norton (Secretary), Ed Strabel, Mark Strabel, Dave Freer, Natalie King, Chris Tomsen, Lucas Parker, Gene Backus, Daryl Farrens, and Ashley Wise. Up for re-election this year is Gene Backus.
We are also taking nominations for 1 new Board Member. If you are interested in becoming a board member or nominating someone else, please send an email to email@example.com by October 8th.
Adult Ski Lessons
With our trails lit, the Mat-Su Ski Club will start offering Adult Ski Lessons and training for all level skiers in the evenings now. The program will be offered Monday and Thursday evenings in addition to the Saturday morning sessions, starting in early December. More details will be in the November newsletter.
Mat-Su Ski Club Ski Swap
The Mat-Su Ski Club will host a ski swap at this year's annual meeting. It will be held from 4:30-5:30pm in the chalet at Government Peak Recreation Area. If you have any outdoor equipment that you would like to sell, you are welcome to bring it and try to sell it. You are responsible for taking everything with you when the swap is over.
